PREP BOYS BASKETBALL Boardman pulls away in 4th
The Spartans defeated Rayen and Fitch knocked off Wilson.
BOARDMAN -- Boardman outscored The Rayen School 29-17 in the fourth quarter, bolting from a 29-29 tie, to defeat the Tigers 58-46.
Nick Ludban had 15 points to lead the Spartans, including seven in the fourth quarter. Dan Martin added 14 points and Steve Fabian scored 11. Fabian also had seven points in the decisive final period.
Rayen was led by Odell Eargle, who finished with 15 points. Dominique Crosby had eight points.
Fitch 71, Wilson 56
AUSTINTOWN -- Damian Eargle scored 20 points as Fitch remained unbeaten.
James Wallace added 17 points for the Falcons (3-0), while Tsas Cherney had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Wilson (0-4) was led by Justin Maxwell, who scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers. William Johnson scored 20 points for the Redmen.
Canfield 51, Ursuline 50
CANFIELD -- Jordan Ferns had 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, to lead Canfield.
Kyle Melewski added 14 points for the Cardinals, who led 39-33 after the third quarter.
Jerome Jones had 17 points for Ursuline, while Casey Palermo added 13. Palermo had three 3-pointers.
Jackson-Milton 68,Lowellville 63, OT
NORTH JACKSON -- Andrew Whitmer scored 21 points as Jackson-Milton won its Inter-County League opener.
Whitmer also had eight assists and two steals for the Bluejays (3-2 overall).
Mark Balent had 20 points for Jackson-Milton, while Nick Kaley had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Lowellville was led by Vince Broll with 23 points and Mario Nero with 19.
United 67, Columbiana 54
HANOVERTON -- Jake Roelen and Bubba Taylor scored 16 points apiece to lead United.
Roelen also had seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles (2-1, 1-0 Tri-County League), while Ryan Adams scored 15 points and Aaron Rowley finished with 11.
Columbiana (1-2, 0-1) was led by Jared Patton, who scored 25 points and had two steals. Eric Ostrander had five rebounds and Dave Vitko had two assists.
Sebring 59, Crestview 41
NEW WATERFORD -- Joe James scored 24 points, scoring three 3-pointers, to lead Sebring (2-0, 1-0 TCL).
Dan Scarpitti scored 12 points for the Trojans, while Matt Ferguson and Joe Amabeli finished with 10 each.
Anthony Amabile led Crestview (0-4, 0-1) with 16 points, while Jerry Einseidel had 14. Amabile and Andy Walton each had four rebounds for the Rebels.
Lisbon 44, East Palestine 28
EAST PALESTINE -- Marcus Judy scored 10 points to lead Lisbon in a low-scoring game.
Dom Defilippo had 12 rounds for the Blue Devils (2-1, 1-0 TCL), while Corey Smith had eight. Judy also had eight assists, while Josh Grafton and Smith had two steals apiece.
Zac Dunn led East Palestine (0-3, 0-1) with eight points, while Dan Harolt had eight rebounds. The Bulldogs were hampered by 9-for-40 shooting.
Cornerstone Christian 70,Youngstown Christian 49
WILLOUGHBY -- Dominic Vitullo scored 14 points to lead Youngstown Christian (0-3).
Dan Weybrecht scored 17 points and Jason Oates had 16 for Cornerstone Christian (3-1).
