Grand reopening
The creation of a pedestrian mall more than 30 years ago closed Federal Street to vehicular traffic. The street was reopened to traffic Tuesday. The work was paid for with state and local grants.
General contractor: Parella-Pannunzio Inc. of Youngstown.
Design engineers: MS Consultants of Youngstown.
Construction engineers: ES & amp; C International LLC of Youngstown.
During the pedestrian mall years, these activities took place on Federal Plaza:
Twenty "Parties on the Plaza."
City Fest, Hispanic Fest, October Fest and the Greater Youngstown Italian Fest.
The Mini Grand Prix and several classic car shows.
Ice-carving exhibits.
St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The creation of the Plazateer Marching Band sponsored by William Lyden of the Lyden Oil Co.
