YSU men fall in SMS consolation game, 77-55
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team suffered a 77-55 setback to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night in the consolation game of the SMS Price Cutter Classic at the Hammond Student Center.
Senior Brian Radakovich scored a team-high 16 points and Quin Humphrey added 15 for the Penguins (2-3).
The Lions (5-2) used 24 points by Ricky Woods, including 16 in the second half to earn the victory.
For the second consecutive night, YSU struggled at the games outset. After Radakovich scored the first basket of the game, the Penguins scored just nine points the next 13 minutes.
However, after trailing 28-16 with 3:16 left in the opening period, Youngstown State closed with a flurry to pull within six the break.
Radakovich made a free throw, John Barber drilled a 3-pointer and Humphrey added a jumper to cut into the SELU lead.
In the second half, the Lions took advantage of 63.3 percent shooting (19-of-30) to go on and win the consolation game. Southeastern Louisiana scored 11 straight points to turn a 45-33 lead to a 56-33 bulge and it never looked back.
For the game, YSU shot 41.3 percent (19-of-46) while Southeastern Louisiana (30-of-59) shot 50.8 percent.
The Penguins will not play during the week because of final exams, but return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Center against Bowling Green.
