Vice cops arrest teen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Phillip Faraglia, 19, of Manchester Avenue was issued a citation Saturday evening that charges underage possession of an alcoholic beverage.
Vice cops, in response to complaints about underage drinking at Giacchetta's, 3310 Mahoning Ave., entered the bar and saw Faraglia with a bottle of beer, reports show.
Faraglia was due in municipal court today for arraignment.
Police on alert fordrunken holiday drivers
NILES -- The Niles Police Department will be increasing the number of road officers during the holiday season to target impaired drivers.
With the use of state money provided through the Trumbull County DUI Task Force, more officers will be on the road at various times to look specifically for these dangerous drivers throughout the city.
Prostitution suspect cited
YOUNGSTOWN -- Rose Craig told vice cops who issued her a citation Saturday night charging loitering to engage in prostitution that she just got out of jail after serving 60 days for the same crime. Police said they set up surveillance on Oak Hill Avenue and watched as Craig, 28, of Breaden Street attempted to wave cars over to her. Craig told the officers that she was walking home.
Windows vandalized
YOUNGSTOWN -- Vandals broke out windows, mostly with rocks, late Saturday night and early Sunday. Broken windows were reported at West Side Bakery, 2034 Mahoning Ave.; CVS Pharmacy, 2846 Mahoning Ave.; Auto Zone, 3323 Market St.; a house in the 80 block of Hazelwood Avenue; and a house in the 1500 block of Bancroft Avenue.
Police also checked out reports that kids were shooting paintballs at houses in the Hazelwood-Ridgelawn Avenue section of the city's West Side. No arrests were made.
Civil War group to meet
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County Historical Society will present its monthly Civil War Discussion Group at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at the society's headquarters at 119 S. Pitt St.
The program will be based on two themes: soldier entertainment (especially medicine shows and Christmas) and a variety of heroes from Pennsylvania. The Civil War Discussion Group is part of the Historical Society's ongoing efforts to provide programming related to local history. Butts Museum open byappointment until May
FOWLER -- The Fowler Township Historical Society announced that the David and Melissa Butts Museum, 4562 Wilson-Sharpsville Road, will be open by appointment only until May. Call (330) 637-2006 or (330) 638-6646.
The society recently received some copies of valuable documents from the James Fowler Mansion in Westfield, Mass., which had been found in the attic. The copies include records, deeds, maps and land documents from early New England settlers in Fowler of the 1800s.
Plans have been made for the historical society members to take a bus trip to Westfield in 2005 to visit the Fowler Mansion.
