WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Jon Smith scored on a 7-yard run in the second overtime as William & amp; Mary rallied from a 21-point deficit Saturday to beat Delaware 44-38 and advance to the Division I-AA semifinals for the first time in school history.
William & amp; Mary (11-3), which trailed 31-10 at halftime, forced overtime on Lang Campbell's 15-yard touchdown pass to Joe Nicholas to make it 31-31 with 1:56 left in regulation. The touchdown capped a 12-play, 68-yard drive.
Delaware (9-4), the defending national champion, got the first possession in overtime and scored on a 7-yard pass from Sonny Riccio to Justin Long. The Tribe responded with a second Campbell-to-Nicholas touchdown pass, this one covering 2 yards.
Smith scored on the fifth play of the second overtime. Greg Kuehn missed the point-after, creating an opportunity for Delaware, but the Blue Hens stalled at the 9-yard line.
Omar Cuff, who had 170 yards on 27 carries, scored two touchdowns to help Delaware to the big halftime lead.
Montana 47, New Hampshire 17
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Craig Ochs passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns and Lex Hilliard rushed for 107 yards and two more scores to lead Montana.
No. 7 Montana (11-2) will play host to the winner of the Sam Houston State-Eastern Washington quarterfinal at noon next Saturday.
The teams traded field goals on their first possessions and punts on their next but it was all Montana the rest of the way.
Ochs completed 16 consecutive passes during a stretch from late in the first quarter to early in the third quarter as Montana built a 37-3 lead on an 18-yard touchdown reception by Jefferson Heidelberger with 11:07 left in the third quarter.
Ochs' third TD pass, a 3-yarder to Jon Talmage with 4:57 left in the third, put Montana up 44-3.
Dan Carpenter kicked two 31-yard field goals, the last one giving Montana a 47-3 lead with 14:17 remaining.
James Madison 14, Furman 13
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Raymond Hines' fourth-down, 1-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds left lifted James Madison.
The Dukes (11-2) had never won more than one game in five previous playoff trips. Now, they'll face William & amp; Mary next week for a spot in the championship game at Chattanooga on Dec. 17.
It looked like a long shot for the Dukes as Furman's Scott Beckler lined up for the clinching 43-yard field goal with five minutes remaining. But James Madison's Demetrius Shambley blocked the low kick -- it was the Dukes' second block of the game -- and set up a final chance at victory.
Quarterback Justin Rascati completed 5 of 8 throws on the winning 74-yard drive, including passes of 16 and 11 yards to D.D. Boxley when the Dukes faced second-and-22. Rascati's 14-yard throw to Ardon Bransford brought James Madison to Furman's 8 with 54 seconds left.
