Big plays: Rick Ciccone's 47-yard return on the opening kickoff was the longest for Mount Union this season. Two plays later, Ciccone caught a 48-yard pass from Zac Bruney, which was a career long for the senior running back from Coshocton.Apple or cherry: Carthage's defensive success this season was predicated on forcing turnovers. The Redmen, who blitz on every down, came into Saturday's game plus-31 in turnover ratio. Mount Union enjoyed a plus-1 in the ratio in Saturday's game.Carthage injuries: Kyle Kalvaitis had a hip pointer and didn't dress. He was Carthage's second-leading receiver this season. Also, defensive lineman Erik Novak was out of the lineup.Rare sighting: The 150 yards gained by Dante Washington on Saturday was the most allowed this season by the Purple Raiders. Brandon Hedges of Baldwin-Wallace gained 111 yards Oct. 30. The game also marked the first time all season Mount Union was out-gained on the ground. Carthage finished with a 172-119 edge.
