LOCAL COLLEGES First-half lead is not enough as Geneva falls to Wilberforce



WILBERFORCE -- Geneva was leading by as many as 13 points in the first half but could not overcome a 22 percent second half shooting effort, as the Golden Tornadoes lost to Wilberforce, 60-54, Friday.
Geneva (5-3) was led by sophomore Kyle McDermott with 16 points and six rebounds, while Tim Sawyer added 12 points.
Stefan Grundberg had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Wilberforce (4-5) got 14 points from Cameron Phillips and 12 points from Clarence Tubbs.
Women
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Westminster fell to 3-2 despite rallying from a 15-point second half deficit to Point Park at the Bethany Holiday Classic.
Erica Tallo led Westminster with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls) added 10 points.
Daemen 83, Thiel 47
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Thiel fell in the opening round of the Houghton College Tournament.
The Tomcats (1-5) were led by sophomore forward Fontella Jones (Farrell), who finished with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and six rebounds. Junior guard Heather Abate added eight points and three boards.
Sophomore forward Kenecia Streeter grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds to go along with eight points, while senior forward Kristen Benjamin added six points and five rebounds.
The Wildcats (5-3) were led by Germany Jackson's 19 points.
Mount St. Joseph 69, Bethany 62
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Nicole Vlajkovich (Canfield) led Bethany with 13 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
Krystal Clark led Mount St. Joseph with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
