TRUMBULL COUNTY Prince sues over yacht
The lawsuit says the prince made payments of nearly $1 million.
WARREN -- A crown prince from Bahrain is going to court in Trumbull County to secure his interest in a yacht and keep it from being sold.
Abdullah Al-Khalifa of West Riffa, Bahrain, filed suit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court through his Akron lawyers against National Marine Inc., 1546 Ridge Road, Vienna, and Home Savings & amp; Loan Co. of Youngstown.
The vessel
At issue is an Outerlimits Model 51 Quad Step sport yacht.
Al-Khalifa's lawsuit states he made two payments on the vessel in 2002, of $415,000 and $539,149, to a company called Ocean Performance to build it.
The yacht was done in February 2003 and transferred to National Marine, the suit states.
Before the yacht was completed, however, Al-Khalifa had entered into an agreement with National Marine, which is based at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, to use it as a down payment on a new vessel that National was to procure for the crown prince.
That vessel has not been delivered to Al-Khalifa, his suit states.
This year, Home Savings filed suit against National Marine, and a judge appointed a receiver over the business's property.
Al-Khalifa seeks a declaratory judgment establishing his superior rights to the vessel and a preliminary injunction to prevent the receiver, Atty. Andrew W. Suhar, from selling the Outerlimits Model 51.
The case is assigned to Judge John Stuard.
