Tribute to Warren's finest
EDITOR:
I am writing to let you know of my recent experience in meeting two of Warren's finest, both caring and experienced police officers. These two gentlemen, officers Brian Crites and Brian Holmes, deserve the highest recognition and our thanks for the outstanding ability and respect that they showed for my son and me. Warren is so lucky to have them serving our community.
My son and I had a situation that these two fine officers walked into and saw something that we didn't see. They shared some of their own personal experiences with us and became more than just friends, they had an impact.
I've known Officer Crites for a few years and have always known him to be a caring part of our community. I understand Officer Holmes is new on the force and that he has a background in psychology. I asked him why he chose to be a police officer when he has a degree and his answer was that you have to be happy and love going to work everyday.
These two men don't look at their jobs as a paycheck; they look at their jobs as a chance to help others. The city of Warren is very fortunate to have them on its team.

Ignore history at your peril
EDITOR:
It was a sad day when the "politically correct" liberals took over our educational system. One of the things they did that handicaps us immensely is discarding history and geography and instituting the so-called social studies that enables them to indoctrinate our children into their perverted beliefs.
For instance: They do not teach that since time immemorial the peoples of the Middle East (Iraq, Iran, etc.) believe they are the true race and all heathens should be destroyed, no matter the cost or how long it takes. In the years B.C., Persians under the rule of Xerxes set out to subdue Europe. Invading Greece they were met at the pass of Thermopylae by Leonidas and 300 Spartans with the help of other Greeks and stopped. A traitor led the Persians around the pass on a goat track (Michael Moore?) and attacked on both sides, the Spartans were wiped out. Leonidas was beheaded and his body crucified. (Sound familiar?) This battle took the starch out of the Persians and they went home only to start their campaign again and creep across North Africa and they control it to this day.
They tried again in the years A.D. to invade Europe through Spain. Known as Saracens or Moors, they reached France. Charlemagne dispatched Roland and his knights to stop them. With bravery and determination (no longer available in France) it was done. The Persians took time (a couple centuries) and tried again. This time in a different way with new tactics.
Does 9/11 ring a bell? If history is taught again will our grandchildren learn about Leonidas and Charlemagne and George W. Bush?

We're paying for the pork
EDITOR:
Despite the soaring national deficit, Congressman Tim Ryan continues to be nothing more than a pork spending liberal. Ryan's recent support of the Omnibus spending bill last week allowed our hard-earned tax dollars to be spent on the following pork projects:
U$80,000 to the San Diego Gay,Lesbian,Transexual,Transgender Center
U$50,000 to control wild hogs in Missouri
U$335,00 to protect North Dakota's sunflowers from blackbirds
U$443,000 to develop salmon-fortified baby food.
With the balloning national debt and rising concern on how government will finance the futures of Medicare and Social Security, it's nice to see Congressman Ryan continue to spend our hard-earned tax dollars on silly pork projects.
