Icy crash hurts 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- The driver of a 1977 Chrysler Cordoba lost control on a patch of ice in the 1900 block Salt Springs Road at 1 a.m. Thursday.
The car slid across the center line, ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree, police said. The impact caused the car to split into three pieces, and the rear section continued across the yard and driveway at 1909 Salt Springs, where it slammed into the porch.
The impact also threw the driver, 28-year-old Charles G. Holmes of Niles, into the back seat of the car. The roof had to be cut off to free Holmes.
He and his passenger, Kenneth P. Ellwood, 22, also of Niles, were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
The car remains were towed and will be held for an accident investigation.
