COLUMBUS -- Mahoning County will receive a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development to help install sewer lines and lift stations in Springfield Township.
The $3.1 million project will provide sewers for 164 households in the township.
"Promoting safe and sanitary conditions throughout Ohio's communities enhances quality of life and provides the infrastructure necessary for economic growth," said State Development Director Bruce Johnson.
The Water and Sanitary Sewer Program helps local governments maintain, improve and expand their water and sanitary sewer systems.
Niles school is seekingto expand yearbook count
NILES -- Library officials at Niles McKinley High School want to improve the size of the school's yearbook collection.

Bristol library to haveChristmas program
BRISTOL -- Bristol Public Library has planned a special Christmas program for children through age 12.
Tom Phoolery the magician and Corny the Clown will be performing at 11 a.m. Saturday on the library's second floor. Afterward, a special visitor will take time out of his busy schedule to chat with children.

2 plead guilty to chargesinvolving theft at YMHA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two people charged with defrauding the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority of $5,000 have pleaded guilty in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Police charged Althea Curry, no age given, of Medina Avenue, and James P. Adams, 31, also of Medina Avenue, with tampering with records, theft and forgery at the YMHA from Dec. 1, 2003, to Jan. 4, 2004.
Curry pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with records and theft in office. Adams pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of theft and forgery.
They are scheduled for sentencing Jan. 27 before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.
Christmas tree sale
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Township Fire Department Station 21 is conducting its annual Christmas tree sale at the station on Struthers Road.
Hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The trees are locally grown and fresh cut each day. Four varieties are available: Frasier fir, Black Hill spruce, blue spruce and Balsam fir.
Proceeds will help firefighters buy new equipment.
Prison term for slashing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Mickisha Day, 24, of Roslyn Avenue to one year in prison Wednesday for slashing another woman with a beer bottle.
The judge sentenced Day on a charge of aggravated assault, which was reduced during plea bargaining from the original charge of felonious assault.
Day broke a beer bottle and slashed Dawn Jones of Youngstown near her chest area July 14.
2 plead innocent
CLEVELAND -- Jeffrey J. Moffie, 54, of Streetsboro and Dale L. Delgado, 39, of Olmsted Falls pleaded innocent Wednesday in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
They are accused of devising a scheme to defraud Bank One in Cleveland by providing false financial information to induce the bank to grant loans to their clients.
Magistrate Judge Nancy Vecchiarelli set bond at $100,000 for each. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Peter C. Economus in Youngstown.
Jeffrey Moffie is the elder brother of Sam Moffie, 44, of Boardman, a one-time political activist who ran twice for a Mahoning County commissioner seat and lost.
