MAC ROUNDUP Freshman helps Zips overtake Dukes
Kent State defeated Central Michigan in both teams' conference opener.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Freshman Bubba Walther scored 15 points, all from 3-point range, as Akron handed Duquesne its fifth consecutive loss, 77-65, Wednesday night.
All 11 players that saw the court scored for the Zips (3-1), who won their third in a row. Jeremiah Wood (11 points) and Dru Joyce (10) also scored in double-digits for Akron, which has now won four in a row against Duquesne.
The Zips outscored Duquesne, 37-21, in the second half after trailing 44-40 at halftime.
Duquesne (1-6) began the game on a 12-2 run, but after an Akron timeout, the Zips scored the next 12 points.
Duquesne scored a season-high 44 points in the first half, including 14 from Bryant McAllister. McAllister led all scorers with 21 points. DeVario Hudson had 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Dukes.
Bradley 76, N. Illinois 74 OT
DEKALB, Ill. -- Lawrence Wright and Marcellus Sommerville each scored 19 points to lead Bradley to a 76-74 overtime victory over Northern Illinois on Wednesday night.
Bradley (3-1) sank nine of 12 free throws in overtime for the margin of victory. Tony Bennett and Jeremy Crouch also added 12 points each for the Braves.
Kent St. 81, Cent. Michigan 72
KENT -- Jason Edwin scored 25 points and Kevin Warzynski added 20 to lead Kent State (5-2) to an 81-72 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday night in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Edwin hit 10 of 15 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, while Warzynski made 7 of 9 from the field and connected on 5 of 6 free throws.
Kevin Nelson led the Chippewas (2-2) with 23 points and Robert Sevalia scored 15 off the bench.
Buffalo 74, Colgate 62
AMHERST, N.Y. -- Turner Battle and Yassin Idbihi each had 13 points to help lead Buffalo to a 74-62 victory over Colgate Wednesday night.
Idbihi also grabbed 11 rebounds, Daniel Gilbert chipped in 12 points, and both Calvin Cage and Mark Bortz added 11 points for the Bulls (3-1).
Buffalo led by five at the break and was able to increase its lead to 56-44 midway through the second half thanks to a 9-0 run that was capped by Bortz's layup. The Bulls then pushed the advantage to 15 following Idbihi's jumper with 6:26 to go.
East Carolina 73, Toledo 71
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Corey Rouse scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lift East Carolina to a 73-71 win against Toledo Wednesday night.
Moussa Badiane added 15 points and 11 rebounds while Mike Cook scored 15 points and had seven assists for the Pirates (4-2).
The Rockets (0-3) got double-digit scoring from three players -- Keonta Howell (19), Keith Triplett (15), and Allen Pinson (10).
