Youngstown sex offender gets probation
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man who enticed a 16-year-old female relative to drink alcohol and then began groping her has received three years' probation.
Judge Jack Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court also designated John C. Loveland, 37, of Walnut Trace, as a sexually oriented offender, which means he must register his address with local authorities.
Dawn Krueger, an assistant county prosecutor, said Tuesday that Loveland encouraged the teenager to drink alcohol and then showed her a pornographic tape in his bedroom in May.
He then began to fondle the teen. She got away and went to her grandmother's nearby home, where she called police.
Loveland pleaded guilty to a charge of gross sexual imposition in October. He could have faced 18 months in prison.
Krueger said that in addition to the probation, Loveland must attend counseling and can't return to his home, where the teenager stays, without approval of counselors. She added that the victim and her mother approved of the probation.
