Nazr Mohammed fouled Antoine Walker with two seconds to go, but Walker -- who scored a season-high 36 points -- missed the first free throw. Following a timeout, Walker made the second free throw despite trying to intentionally miss the shot. The Knicks then inbounded and ran out the clock.

HOUSTON -- Antonio McDyess had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Richard Hamilton also scored 19, helping Detroit snap a five-game road losing streak. McDyess scored the Pistons' first 12 points in the opening 4 1/2 minutes as Detroit jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, sending the Rockets to their fourth consecutive loss and sixth in the past eight games. Jim Jackson led Houston with 21 points and eight rebounds, Yao Ming added 19 and Tracy McGrady had 16.
Spurs 107, Mavericks 89
DALLAS -- Devin Brown sparked a fourth-quarter spurt with two three-point plays and two dunks, helping San Antonio beat Dallas to spoil the pseudo-coaching debut of Avery Johnson. Johnson, the hand-picked successor of Dallas coach Don Nelson, ran the game as if the job was already his. Nelson was there, too, but offered only suggestions. This was the first of about six such training sessions Nelson has planned. Brown scored 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Beno Udrih also had 16 off the bench, while Tim Duncan had 20 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks. Tony Parker scored 17 and Manu Ginobili added 11. Dallas lost for the fourth time in six games. The Mavs are 3-5 since opening the season 7-1 and already have lost three home games after dropping only five all of last season. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 21 points, 13 rebounds and a team-best four assists. Josh Howard scored 17, Marquis Daniels had 15 and Jason Terry 10.
Suns 115, Jazz 102
SALT LAKE CITY -- Steve Nash had 20 points and 14 assists to lead Phoenix to its eighth straight win. Amare Stoudemire scored 29 points, Shawn Marion scored 21 and both pulled down nine rebounds for the Suns, who were too fast for Utah and outscored the Jazz 33-22 in the fourth quarter. Quentin Richardson scored 18 and Joe Johnson added 15 as all five Suns starters scored in double figures. Utah was playing its first of at least five games without All-Star forward Andrei Kirilenko, who was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a sprained knee ligament. Rookie Kris Humphries, who came off the injured list when Kirilenko went on, had a career-high 13 points and Carlos Boozer scored 27 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for the Jazz.
