Hot first half carries Mount Union
Grove City stayed unbeaten with a career-best game from its center.
ALLIANCE -- Brett Hershberger scored 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Chris Blakely pulled down 13 rebounds as Mount Union handled Lake Erie, 74-50.
Mount Union (2-2) shot 53 percent in the first half to lead 41-25 and was never threatened.
Kyle Karpinski and Brad Gerard added 11 points each for the Purple Raiders.
Lake Erie (0-2) was led by Nate Malensek with 11 points, while Reggie Richardson and Jajcen Harris had 10 each.
Grove City 78, LaRoche 68
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior center Phil Bushre scored a career-high 25 points and added eight rebounds Tuesday night as Grove City College (4-0) defeated visiting La Roche, 78-68, in a non-conference game at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City won it eighth straight regular-season win dating back to last season. Demetris Pringle scored 26 points for LaRoche (0-2) to lead all scorers.
Westminster 109,Penn State-Behrend 99
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College (5-1) made 22 three-pointers en route to its fourth consecutive victory.
Five Titans were in double figures, led by junior guard Mark DeMonaco with 28 points and five assists. DeMonaco shot 8-of-9 from the field, including 7-of-8 from three-point range. Senior guard Ed Pagley also made seven three-pointers and had 22 points. Pat O'Connor and Chris Hatch each added 18 points, while Brian Fadden had 11 off the bench.
Tom Lulich led Penn State-Behrend (1-3) with 24 points.
Women
PITTSBURGH -- Thiel College had four players in double figures to pick up its first victory of the season, 75-70 over Carnegie Mellon.
Thiel (1-4) was led by sophomore guard Nicole Valentino with 19 points and three assists. Kristen Benjamin added 15 points and six rebounds, while Heather Abate and Sarah McCoy each added 10.
Thiel led by 16 before Carnegie Mellon (2-2) cut it to three late in the second half. A pair of free throws by Fontella Jones sealed the win. Jones finished with nine points, six assists, three rebounds and three assists.
Wooster 63, Allegheny 59
WOOSTER -- Kristen Lyzen and Katie Kestler led Allegheny (3-2, 0-1 North Coast Athletic Conference).
Courtney Steding added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Gators.
