CRIME Police: Cocaine was found at robbery suspect's home
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- When the FBI arrested Jeremy Clark, a former Sky Bank branch manager, cocaine was found in his home, police said.
Clark, 32, of Highland Road, and Justin Fortuna, formerly of Hermitage, face charges of bank larceny/burglary and conspiracy, FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen, spokesman for the bureau's Pittsburgh office, said Tuesday.
Fortuna was arrested by the FBI in Miami and will be transferred to Pittsburgh soon, the agent said.
Both were apprehended last week, charged with the July 13 theft of an undisclosed amount of money from Sky Bank, 187 Main St., Greenville. Clark had been the branch manager.
Police Chief Ed Stanton said Tuesday that when the FBI served the arrest warrant at Clark's home, they found a white substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. A state warrant was then issued, charging him with possession of cocaine.
Stanton said the warrant will be served once Clark returns home. The chief expects Clark to be placed on house arrest pending trial.
Clark has made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court, Pittsburgh, Killeen said. He is being held in the Allegheny County jail.
Killeen declined to provide details of the case. He said the investigation continues and "we're not ruling out the possibility that more people are involved."
The day of the break-in, the bank's silent alarm alerted police at 4:40 a.m. The intruders were gone by the time police arrived.
Entry was likely gained by breaking an alley window in the basement. Police on routine patrol had checked that alley around 4:15 a.m. and noticed nothing amiss, Greenville Police Thomas Strahler said at the time.
Strahler theorized that the intruders broke into the building sometime after the alley was checked and made their way to the bank offices on the first floor.
Police wouldn't say whether the bank vault was entered.
