BOYS PREP BASKETBALL Canfield doubles up Chaney, 70-35
Canton Timken knocked off Wilson with a late rally.
CANFIELD -- Lance Randall scored 14 points as Canfield High's boys basketball team opened its season with a 70-35 victory over Chaney, Tuesday.
The Cardinals enjoyed a balanced scoring attack. Mike Rounsavall finished with 12 points, while Jordan Ferns scored 11 and Gupreet Singh had 10.
Canfield jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and a 41-15 edge at halftime.
Cory Council was 6-for-7 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to lead Chaney (0-1) in scoring.
Canton Timken 65, Wilson 62
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Trojans (2-0, 1-0 City Series) rallied from a 52-47 deficit after three quarters, outscoring Wilson 18-10.
Marcus Hunter paced Timken with 17 points, while Jeremy Martin added 13 and Julian Wesley and Phelbert Lawson added 12 each.
Derrick Maddox led the Redmen (0-2, 0-1) with 17 points, while Walter Duncan scored 12 and Bert Pritchard added 11.
Wilson made only 13 of 27 free throws, while Timken was 14-for-24.
Struthers 54, Hubbard 29
STRUTHERS -- Dave Mathews and Mike Duponty scored 14 points apiece for Struthers (2-0).
Alan Daniels added 10 points for the Wildcats, who led 32-11 at halftime.
Hubbard (0-1) was led by Todd Coonce, who scored seven points.
Sebring 62, Western Reserve 42
BERLIN CENTER -- Dan Scarpitti and Joe James paced Sebring with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
The Trojans (1-0) trailed 13-7 after the first quarter and 19-9 early in the second quarter, before rallying. Sebring led 24-22 at the intermission and 43-31 after three quarters.
Western Reserve (0-2) was led by Dave Ferrando, with 12 points, and Dave Devillin added 11. Brock Christie had seven rebounds.
Mass. Jackson 78, Campbell 64
MASSILLON -- Terrance Phillips scored 22 points for Campbell, which led 37-31 at halftime.
Louie Samonds added 17 points and Teyon Harris and Trey Soares scored 10 apiece. Soares had seven rebounds and Phillips had six, and Samonds had four turnovers for the Red Devils (1-1).
Jackson (2-0) was led by Keith Calvert and Mark Young, who scored 18 points apiece, and Mike Nichols, who finished with 17. Young also had 11 rebounds and Nichols had five assists. The Polar Bears shot 46 percent from the floor (25-of-55).
Southeast 61, West Branch 43
RAVENNA -- Pat Divocky scored 21 points and Micah Herndon added 15 for the Pirates (1-0).
Josh Nelson tossed in 12 points and he had a team-high nine rebounds.
Shane Young paced West Branch (1-1) with 10 points.
Heartland Christian 63,Jefferson County Christian 35
COLUMBIANA -- Nate Wolford scored 23 points and Chad Hall added 13 for Heartland Christian (2-0).
Dan Sells led Jefferson County Christian with 13 points.
