Jobless rate declinesin Lawrence, Mercer
SHARON, Pa. -- The unemployment rate in Mercer County dropped slightly from 5.7 to 5.5 percent in July. The state Department of Labor & amp; Industry reported that 55,000 people were working in the county in July as compared with 54,700 in June, while the number of people seeking employment declined from 3,300 in June to 3,200 in July.
The jobless rate in Lawrence County also dropped slightly from 7.4 percent in June to 7.2 percent in July. According to the state, there were 41,500 people employed in the county in July as compared to 41,300 in June. The number of people seeking work in July was 2,800 and it was 2,900 in June.
Cedar Point ranks first
SANDUSKY -- Cedar Point was named best amusement park in the world for the seventh straight year by Amusement Today, a Texas-based trade publication.
The magazine ranked these Cedar Point rides among the Top 10 steel roller coasters in the world: Millennium Force, No. 1; Magnum XL-200, No. 3; Top Thrill Dragster, No. 7; and Raptor, No. 10.

HOWLAND -- Atlantis Plastics Injection Molding has been fined $28,500 for nine safety violations following the death of a plant worker in April.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued three citations related to forklift operations. James Wilson of Niles was fatally injured when he reached into a running forklift to try to shut it off.
