GOLF Craig Stadler winner by a stroke

Woody Austin won the Buick Championship in a playoff and Lorena Ochoa won in Kutztown, Pa.

ALOHA, Ore. -- Craig Stadler closed with four straight birdies in a 5-under-par 67 for a one-shot victory Sunday at the Tradition and his second major on the Champions Tour.
Stadler finished at 13-under 275, a stroke ahead of Jerry Pate (66) and Allen Doyle (71) at Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club. Hometown favorite Peter Jacobsen was one of seven golfers at 11 under.
Stadler, who started the round four stokes behind the leaders, had a difficult third shot from the rough on the par-5 18th, but hit his approach within 4 feet of the pin. He made the birdie putt to reach 13 under, and headed to the clubhouse to see if the lead would hold up against five others one shot back.
Jacobsen, a Portland native, missed a 4-foot birdie putt at No. 16 that would have given him the lead.
Pate eagled the par-5 16th to take the lead at 14-under, a shot ahead of Vicente Fernandez, but fell back with bogeys on the final two holes.
Buick Championship
CROMWELL, Conn. -- Woody Austin made a 6-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat Tim Herron.
Austin shot a 4-under-par 66 and finished 10-under in regulation for his second career victory and first in 274 events. The former bank teller earned $756,000 for the win, his first since the 1995 Buick Open.
Austin had a chance to win the tournament on the final hole of regulation, but flew his approach about 80 feet past the pin and made a bogey on the 444-yard 18th.
LPGA Tour
KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Lorena Ochoa birdied three of the last four holes to overcome a five-stroke deficit.
Ochoa finished with a 65 to score a 19-under 269 for her second career win. She took the lead for good when third-round leader Grace Park bogeyed the 15th -- one of three bogeys by Park on the back nine.
Park finished with an even-par 72, two strokes behind Ochoa. Park set a tournament record through 54 holes with a 17-under 199.
BMW Open
NORD EICHENRIED, Germany -- Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain won his fourth title on the European tour this season, and four others claimed Ryder Cup berths.
Jimenez birdied Nos. 11, 13 and 14 to break open a duel with France's Thomas Levet and win by two strokes at 21-under 267. He finished with a 66.
Levet shot 68 for a 19-under 269, while Paul Casey, Colin Montgomerie and Alex Cejka were three back at 270.
Englishman Casey finished third to secure one of four guaranteed spots and was joined by countrymen David Howell and Ian Poulter and Irishman Paul McGinley. Bernhard Langer added Montgomerie and Luke Donald as captain's picks on Sunday.
The Ryder Cup is Sept. 17-19 at Oakland Hills outside of Detroit.
Nationwide Tour
SANDY, Utah -- Brett Wetterich shot a 1-under-par 71 for a one-stroke victory.
Wetterich, who finished at 16-under 272 at Willow Creek Country Club, earned $81,000 for his second career Nationwide Tour win. Franklin Langham (66) and Ryuji Imada (67) tied for second at 15-under.
