Athletics 5, Devil Rays 4
OAKLAND, Calif.-- Eric Chavez homered for the third straight game and Tim Hudson won his third consecutive start.
The A's sixth straight victory extended their AL West lead to two games over Anaheim after the Angels lost 7-1 at home to Minnesota.
Eric Byrnes added a two-run homer for Oakland, which overcame three errors a day after rallying from a four-run deficit to win 8-7.
Hudson (10-4) retired the first six batters before a walk to Randall Simon leading off the third. Chavez, the A's Gold Glove third baseman, committed a fielding error in the third to allow Carl Crawford to reach, and Mark McLemore's fielding error at second in the fifth led to two unearned runs.
The Devil Rays received a warning after starter Dewon Brazelton plunked rookie Bobby Crosby in his left upper arm in the fourth following Byrnes' homer. Brazelton hit Erubiel Durazo with a pitch last weekend after the designated hitter homered.
Chavez hit his 27th homer in the first, sending a 1-2 pitch from Brazelton (6-5) over the wall in left-center for a two-run shot. McLemore doubled before Chavez.
After Scott Hatteberg grounded out, the A's got two more hits, including Durazo's RBI single that scored Jermaine Dye from second following his double, making it 3-0.
