YSU women's soccer team opens with tie

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Youngstown State women's soccer team (0-0-1) opened its 2004 season with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Robert Morris on Friday night at the North Athletic Soccer Complex.
YSU goalie Caitlin Bestard and Robert Morris goalie Elizabeth Moss highlighted the match by recording nine saves apiece.
Both keepers came up with big saves in the extra session as Bestard snuffed a breakaway opportunity for RMU.
Moss returned the favor when she punched a 20-yard shot high over the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.
The Penguins outshot the Colonials 15-8 in regulation, but RMU held the edge in overtime, outshooting YSU, 9-3. Bestard collected six of her nine saves in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Sophomore Katie Duracky led the Penguins with seven shots, while junior Sadie Brookman and Maddie Lawther took three each.
The Penguins return to action on Sunday when they travel to Kent State for a 1 p.m. match.
