VFW Ladies Auxiliary
Chloe Williams of Warren was elected national patriotic instructor of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the group's 91st national convention in Cincinnati.
Williams is also chairwoman of the National President's Homecoming, which will be Sept. 23-26 in Columbus, and is a past president of the Ohio VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
JoAnne Ott of North Lawrence, Ohio, a member of Canal Fulton Auxiliary 9795, was elected 2004-2005 national president; and Judy Lewis of East Liverpool is the national legislative director.
Meeting place changed
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday will be at the Canfield Fairgrounds in the Mahoning Veterans Memorial Building. The meeting is usually at the Mahoning County Annex Building.

Lieutenant commission
Marine 2nd Lt. John S. Stoll, son of Maj. John E. and Lynne Stoll Jr. (USMC retired), was commissioned through the Platoon Leaders Course. He was sworn in by his father, and his mother and grandfather, John E. Stoll Sr., of Toms River, N.J., a Marine veteran of the Korean War era, pinned on his lieutenant bars.
Stoll is a 1999 graduate of Poland High School and a 2004 graduate of Youngstown State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology.
Stoll will report to Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Va., for six months of officer training, after which he will go to the Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Fla., for flight training.
Master sergeant
Army Master Sgt. Brian J. Wilkens, a former Youngstown resident, was promoted to his current rank while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd and 4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division, currently deployed to Afghanistan.
Wilkens is the son of Nancy Wilkens of Hubbard. He and his wife, Christine, have a son, Brandon.
Headquarters commander
Army National Guard 1st Lt. Shawn A. Sebrell is the new commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 437th Military Police Battalion, Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Columbus. Sebrell graduated in 1994 from Columbiana High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 2001 from Youngstown State University.

Commendation Medal
Army Spec. Clifton O. Douglas IV has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. Douglas, an intelligence section specialist, is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Okla. Douglas is the son of Ramona Douglas of Austintown. He is a 2000 graduate of Chaney High School.

Return from Bahrain
Coast Guard Seaman Nick Poklemba has returned from Bahrain in the Persian Gulf where he was stationed in the Patrol Forces of South West Asia as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Currently, he is based at Traverse City Air Station, Mich. He is slated to enter boatswains' mate school in Yorktown, Va. From there, he will be transferred to a security response team based in Portsmouth, Va. Poklemba, a 2001 graduate of Canfield High School, is the son of Dan and Elaine Poklemba, and brother of Katie Poklemba, all of Canfield.
Back from Iraq tour
Air Force Senior Airman Stephanie M. Cetor has returned from a six-month tour in Musol, Iraq, to her home base at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. After a two-week debriefing, she is expected to come home on leave.
While in Iraq, Cetor, a 2000 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for her service as a truck and bus driver on numerous convoys with the 37th Transportation Co. Cetor, daughter of John and Micha Cetor of Austintown, was promoted to senior airman earlier this month.
Security detail in Iraq
Marine Corps Pfc. Glenn D. McGee and Lance Cpl. Stephen T. Jordan are among some 2,000 Marines and sailors assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit that recently began the process of ensuring security and stability in the central Iraqi province of Northern Babil.
McGee, son of Mary J. McGee of Salem, is a 2003 graduate of Leetonia High School. Jordan is a 2003 graduate of West Branch High School, Beloit.

Airman leadership grad
Air Force Senior Airman Kristy M. Price graduated from the five-week Airman Leadership School at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va. Price, an accounting liaison clerk, is assigned to the Comptroller Squadron. She is the daughter of Michele M. Testa of Warren and Paul J. Testa of Poland. In 2000, she graduated from Newton Falls High School.
Track vehicle mechanic
Army Pvt. Jeremiah Gee was trained as a track vehicle mechanic at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., and is stationed with the 1st Armored Division in Baumholder, Germany. Gee, the son of Herb and Rosy Gee of Canfield, graduated in 2000 from Canfield High School.
ROTC
Medical Service Corps
Frank B. Wanat, son of Dr. Frank B. Wanat of Poland, was recently commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps branch through the Youngstown State University Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
Wanat will report to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on Sept. 12 to attend the Medical Service Corps Officer Basic Course, and then be assigned to the 18th Medical Command in the Republic of Korea. He received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from YSU.
Leadership course
Five YSU Army Reserve ROTC cadets graduated from the four-week Leadership Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Wash. They are:
Joseph M. Brinsko, son of John and Mary Ellen Brinsko of Lowellville. He is a senior majoring in accounting and will serve as the YSU ROTC Western Reserve cadet battalion commander for this academic year.
Matthew L. Dunleavy, son of Paul and Nancy Dunleavy of New Middletown. Married to the former Megan Luteran of Hermitage, Pa., Dunleavy is a senior majoring in criminal justice and will serve as the cadet battalion operations and training officer.
James R. Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Parker of Lordstown. He is a senior majoring in secondary education and will serve as cadet battalion personnel officer
Thomas Patterson, husband of Heather Patterson of Poland. He is a senior majoring in geography and will serve as the cadet battalion executive officer.
Theodore C. Russell III, son of Theodore and Diane Russell of Poland. He is a senior majoring in criminal justice and will serve as the cadet battalion logistics officer.
Earns Parachutist badge
YSU Army ROTC Cadet Ashley Marie Jenkins, daughter of Elaine Harper of Kensington, Ohio has completed the three-week Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., earning the Parachutist badge. She is a junior majoring in criminal justice.
