PREP SOCCER Newton Falls' girls blank Harding, 7-0



Kortni Collins led the way for the Tigers with a pair of goals.
NEWTON FALLS -- Kortni Collins scored two goals to lead the Newton Falls High girls soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Warren Harding on Saturday.
Caitlin Martin, Meredith Elliott, Casee Piquet, Mary Jo Spletzer and Bethany Runtus added goals for the Tigers. Spletzer also had three assists.
Grace Spletzer made seven saves for Newton Falls (1-2). She also made 15 saves in a 2-0 loss to Champion last week, but was incorrectly identified.
Canfield 7, Lakeview 0
CANFIELD -- The Cardinals used a balanced scoring attack to open their season.
Liz Vernan had two goals and an assist while Nichole Sorice collected a goal and three assists for the Cardinals (0-1).
Also with one goal each were Callie Carrera, Audra Frimpong, Tia Norris and Emily Sulinski.
Canfield held a 33-2 edge in shots on goal.
Warren JFK 4, Canton CC 0
CANTON -- Jenn Natale scored two goals for the Eagles (2-0) in the second half. Katie Piacquadio had a goal and an assist and Lexie Polivka added the other goal.
Jacci Roberts and Roxy Hoerit each had an assist.
JFK had 14 shots on goal compared to one for the Crusaders. The Eagles' Lauren Broadbent and Kristen Prox were outstanding on defense.
Boys
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney's Justin Hilbert scored two goals, one that tied the game with less then two minutes remaining in a 3-3 tie with Mathews.
Sean McQuiston scored the other goal. Monica Miller and Mark Magnolia had an assist apiece.
Drew Himes, Daniel Prokop and Sean Kail each scored a goal for the Mustangs.
