Permits sold out
10 Wildlife Management Units covering a large portion of northwestern, northcentral and northeastern Pennsylvania have exhausted antlerless deer license allocations as of last week. Those WMUs are 1B, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 3A, 3C, 4A, 4C and 4D.
About 195,769 antlerless licenses remain: WMU 1A, 2,544 (48,000); WMU 2A, 23,382 (55,000); WMU 2B, 47,589 (68,000); WMU 2C, 3,467 (75,000); WMU 3B, 3,339 (48,000); WMU 3D, 7,781 (50,000); WMU 4B, 7,718 (49,000); WMU 4E, 2,315 (38,000); WMU 5A, 15,090 (32,000); WMU 5B, 21,467 (64,000); WMU 5C, 43,156 (71,000); and WMU 5D, 17,775 (20,000).
Bobcat drawing
With a limited bobcat season slated for the upcoming hunting and trapping seasons, more than 3,400 individuals have submitted an application for one of the 615 permits that will be selected by the Pennsylvania Game Commission at a public drawing Sept. 10. The computerized drawing will be held at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the agency's Harrisburg headquarters, 2001 Elmerton Ave.
Applications from holders of resident furtaker licenses or junior or senior combination licenses, along with a nonrefundable $5 fee, had to be postmarked no later than Aug. 20. Those selected in the random drawing will receive one permit for no additional charge to either hunt or trap one bobcat. Hunting season runs Oct. 16- Feb. 19. Trapping season runs Oct. 17- Feb. 19.
Elk deadlines
Hunters planning to participate in Pennsylvania's elk hunt have until Sept. 10, to submit an application and $10 nonrefundable fee via & quot;The Outdoor Shop & quot; on the Pennsylvania Game Commission's website (www.pgc.state.pa.us). However, the deadline for submitting a paper application is now closed.
"The Game Commission established an earlier deadline for paper applications to enable the agency to properly process them in time for the public drawing on Sept. 25," said Vern Ross, Game Commission executive director. At the drawing, 40 licenses will be awarded for the elk season, set Nov. 8-13.
Information on the upcoming elk hunt appears on pages 112-117 in the 2004-2005 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations, provided to license buyers.

NRA Youth Sportsfest
The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers Club will host a free NRA Youth Sportsfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25, at the Fish & amp; Game Club of Vienna, state Route 193 across from the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport.
The event will teach basic gun and archery safety, demystify firearms by providing hands-on experience, and provide an enjoyable learning experience to all youths ages 9 to 18 years old.
Participants will have the opportunity to safely shoot .22 rifle, .22 pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading rifle, and archery equipment with adult supervision.
A police canine unit demonstration and Vienna Township Fire emergency squad exhibit is also expected at the event. Youths and their parents will receive a gun safety lesson taught by a certified instructor prior to the shooting events. A picnic lunch will be provided.

Fishing derby set
The East Palestine Sportsmans Club will sponsor the 13th annual handicapped fishing derby Sept. 11 at the club's grounds, North Pleasant Drive off state Route 14.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and poles, bait and assistance will be provided participants.
Lunch and an awards ceremony will follow the derby.
