Meckes 50th observed on trip to Geneva

XGIRARD -- Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meckes of 2500 Chestnut St. were honored Aug. 28 for their golden wedding anniversary at a dinner celebration at Horizon's Restaurant at Geneva Lodge and Conference Center in Geneva, where the couple spent a weekend getaway.
They renewed their vows earlier this summer at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.
Hosts for the observance were the couple's daughters and son-in-law, Nina and Frank Davis of Girard, and Robin Sears, also of Girard. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild complete their family.
Mr. Meckes and the former Ann Marie Grimaldi were married Aug. 7, 1954, at St. Rose Church. He served two years in the U.S. Army and retired in 1980 from Poulakos Bakery in Youngstown, where he was a baker. He then worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Youngstown YWCA for 15 years, retiring in 2002. He has also volunteered at the Youngstown LPGA tournament for the past 15 years since its inception.
His wife was employed at Packard Electric in Warren until retiring in 1988. She then worked for five years as a secretary for the Girard Chamber of Commerce.
The couple are members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald, where Mrs. Meckes served on the church council.
