HEARING
What: Public hearing by the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission to consider the application by Bedford Downs.
Where: Proposed site of Bedford Downs on U.S. Route 422, about four miles west of New Castle. The site is behind Ambrosia Enterprises at the corner of U.S. Route 422 and Pa. Route 551. Shuttle buses will take people to the site from the parking lot of Ambrosia Enterprises.
When: 9 a.m. Sept. 8
Purpose: The meeting is to assist the commission in assessing the impact of the proposed facility.
Comments: Interested people can submit written comments to the Executive Secretary, Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission, Department of Agricultural Building, Room 301, 2301 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17110-9408. Public comments may be submitted up to 48 hours before the date set for the meeting. Those wishing to speak at the meeting should also submit their name, address, telephone number and brief summary of their statement to the commission at least 48 hours before the time of the meeting.

Some information about the proposed racetrack and casino complex in Lawrence County.
It would be located on 550 acres on U.S. Route 422, four miles outside of New Castle in Mahoning Township.
It would include a 1-mile harness track and 5,000 slot machines.
The facility also would include a full-service hotel and convention center, amphitheater, restaurants and eventually an indoor water park, shopping district and housing.
An estimated 2,000 jobs are expected to be created, about 700 for the horse-racing track alone.
The track can be constructed within 12 months of approval from the state.
The $65 million project is being funded solely by private financing.
