Farewell reception
HUBBARD -- The Hubbard Church of the Nazarene, 1815 Cherry Lane Drive S.E., will have a reception Sept. 5 to bid farewell to its pastor, the Rev. L. Rank Willoughby Jr., who is departing after 18 years of service. The reception for the pastor, his wife and three daughters will be from 2 to 4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The public is invited. During the Rev. Mr. Willoughby's tenure the church built a fellowship hall in 1987 that seats up to 250. The church reports a new awareness of its mission outreach arm with a $15,000 budget in 1986 that grew to a $43,000 budget last year. The church also has established a food pantry and Shared Blessings closet.
Free salsa concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- Spanish Evangelical Church, 1408 Rigby St., will have a free salsa concert from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday with Puchi Col & oacute;n and his Salsa Praise band. Col & oacute;n and his band have been touring the United States spreading the Gospel through music and testimony with a blend of Caribbean sound in English and Spanish. Jewish renewal weekend
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Finding Your Spiritual Path," a communitywide Shabbat weekend of Jewish meditation and spiritual renewal, will be Oct. 15-17 at Congregation Rodef Sholom at Elm and Woodbine. It will feature Rabbi Shefa Gold, nationally recognized leader of retreats on Jewish meditation, chanting, devotional healing and spiritual community building. The weekend will begin Friday evening with Shabbat dinner and service at the temple. Participants will convene Saturday morning at Pioneer Pavilion at Mill Creek Park for a day of group dynamics, meditation and workshops addressing the relationship of body, mind and spirit. A continental breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. Participants will gather again at 10 a.m. Sunday for breakfast and a closing program at the temple. Rosary Cenacle planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and the Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have a Rosary Cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Devotions will consist of recitation of the rosary and divine mercy chaplet during the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Prayer breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Usher Ministry of New Vision Baptist Church, 505 W. Boston Ave., will have a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 11. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Eleanor Felder, pastor of Holy Bible Church of God. The theme is "I'd rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my Lord, than to dwell in the tent of wickedness."
Baptist college semester
YOUNGSTOWN -- The local unit of the American Baptist College at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will begin its fall semester Sept. 7 with registration and orientation at 5 p.m. Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday nights. For information call (330) 747-9624.
Religious award classes
WARREN -- Religious awards classes for Trumbull County Catholic Scouts will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Blessed Sacrament School, 3000 Reeves Road N.E. Ad Altare Dei candidates must be 12 years old, and Pope Pius candidates must be 14 years old. Log books are $3, and $25 must be paid upon completion of the course for the medial and picture. Participants should bring a pencil, notebook and Bible.
Salem Aglow banquet
SALEM -- The Salem Aglow International presents "Blue Jean Barn Banquet" from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at The Threshing Floor Christian Campground, 38031 Mattix Road, Lisbon. Revival Fire with the Keke's begins at 7 p.m. The menu will be lasagna or grilled chicken breast and is $7 per person. Reservation deadline is Tuesday. Gospel concert
WARREN -- Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W., will sponsor an evening of gospel music beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. The Gospel Heirs and The Shanower Trio will perform in the sanctuary. There will be a free-will offering. The concert is sponsored by the church finance committee.
