Fair souvenir envelopes
CANFIELD -- Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck, Pluto and the Canfield Fair's crowing rooster all will appear on souvenir envelopes available at the Canfield Fair post office.
This year's souvenir envelope features The Art of Disney Friendship Series and costs $2 each.
Envelopes bought at the Canfield Fair post Office can also be stamped with the official Canfield Fair cancellation mark.
All items mailed from the Canfield Fair post office will bear the special cancellation mark, said Tom Rosko, postmaster of the Deerfield Post Office and one of the postal employees who will staff the booth.
The post office booth, located across from the central administration office, is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the fair, which begins Wednesday and continues through Labor Day.
Roberts reappointed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Atty. Ted Roberts of Poland has been reappointed chairman of the Ohio State Bar Association's independent judiciary and unjust criticism of judges committee for 2004-05. Roberts works for the downtown law firm of Roth, Blair, Roberts, Strasfeld & amp; Lodge. He is a member of OSBA's council of delegates, a trustee and past president of the Mahoning County Bar Association, and a past chairman of the Ohio Association of School Board Attorneys.
Boil-water alert
GIRARD -- Residents of the Parkwood section of the city will be under a boil-water alert from 8 a.m. Monday until Wednesday. Service Director Rex Funge said residents should boil all drinking and food preparation water for three to five minutes before use. The alert is due to the reinstallation of the Trumbull Avenue water main.
Orchestra contract
YOUNGSTOWN -- Musicians and management of Youngstown Symphony Orchestra have another month to negotiate a new contract. Del Sinchak, president of American Federation of Musicians Local 86-242, which represents the performers, said both sides agreed to extend bargaining through Sept. 30. The musicians pact was set to expire Tuesday. Two meetings in September have been scheduled so far, Sinchak said, noting that a wage increase is the key unresolved issue. The symphony's first concert of the season is to be Oct. 23 at Edward W. Powers Auditorium.
Tires slashed
STRUTHERS -- Police are investigating a series of tire slashings reported this week.
According to reports, at least six vehicles parked along Eighth and Lincoln streets and Maplewood Avenue had tires slashed.
Grant for firefighters
LOWELLVILLE -- The village fire department recently received a $2,500 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
The grant will be used for First Responders training and equipment. First Responders answer emergency medical calls and are often on the scene before the ambulance, said Bill Meehan, Lowellville fire chief.
Earlier this year, the fire department received a $2,100 grant for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training equipment.
Lawsuit over arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Columbiana-area woman says she was roughed up and sprayed in the face with pepper spray during an arrest last year. Katrina Whistler of Detwiler Road, Columbiana, is seeking unspecified damages from the city of Youngstown and Mahoning County in a lawsuit she filed Friday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Whistler says she was taken into custody by Youngstown police Aug. 28, 2003. The suit does not say why she was arrested. It says she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a cruiser but was not properly secured. During a ride to the county jail, she was "tossed about the back" of the cruiser because of several abrupt stops.
The suit also says Whistler was sprayed in the face with pepper spray while she was in police custody.
Drug charges
NILES -- Lisa Collins, 39, of 45 N. Clover St. pleaded innocent Friday in municipal court to cultivating marijuana and having drug paraphernalia. .
Police had executed a search warrant at her home Wednesday and said they found more than a half-dozen suspected marijuana plants growing outside and drug paraphernalia in structures on the property.
Collins turned herself in Friday morning.
