NORTH LIMA -- A Plain City, Ohio, couple was killed when their car skidded on the wet Ohio Turnpike in Beaver Township and collided with a truck Saturday. David P. Martin and his wife, Laura L., both 50, died in the crash. The truck driver hauling gravel, David E. Kaminski, 36, of Ravenna, was not injured. The Ohio State Highway Patrol at Hiram said David Martin was driving the car eastbound shortly before 9:30 a.m. during heavy rainfall when it hydroplaned. The car went off the road, through the median and into the westbound lanes and was struck head-on by the truck, the patrol said. The truck flipped onto its side, spilling its load. The westbound lanes were closed temporarily until the vehicles were moved and gravel cleaned up.
