WEATHERSFIELD -- Locked out unionized workers at RMI Titanium will vote on the company's latest contract offer Monday, a union leader said. Voting times had not yet been scheduled at press time.
Ray Raschilla Jr. unit chairman of United Steelworkers of America Local 2155-7, said the union bargaining committee decided to call for a vote to give the 360 workers "ownership" of their fate as the lock-out enters its 11th month. He said the proposed five-year pact includes union concessions worth $3 million to $3.5 million to the company, including a pay freeze for the first three years.
WCI announces a profitfor its third quarter
WARREN -- Still working to emerge from bankruptcy protection, WCI Steel announced Thursday that it made a profit in the third quarter ending July 31 and its employees will receive a share of that profit. It's the second employee profit sharing since WCI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September of 2003.
Hourly employees, members of United Steelworkers of America Local 1375, will get profit-sharing checks totaling 88.2 cents for every hour they worked in the third quarter, the company said. Salaried workers will receive company performance compensation checks.
The union workers will get half their profit-sharing on Sept. 2. The second half will be held in reserve, under terms of the local's contract with WCI, likely to be paid in Feb. 2005, after an audit is conducted at the end of the company's fiscal year.
CVM Fitness launchesKids in Motion program
WARREN -- CVM Fitness, LLC, which specializes in fitness programming, is launching a health and fitness program designed for overweight and inactive children and adolescents. Kids in Motion will be offered in partnership with the Eastwood Fitness Center, Niles, and its affiliate in Howland, Jen's Total Fitness Center.
Children between the ages of 9 and 15 can enter the program at any time, with programs running consecutively throughout the year. The program combines one hour of fun and group exercise with education and counseling in nutrition, healthy eating, motivation, body image, self-esteem and proper exercise technique. Classes will begin Sept. 7.
