YOUNGSTOWN -- Performers have been added to the list of activities at the North Side Farmers Market.
The market at Elm Street and Illinois Avenue operates from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Sept. 18.
The performances will be at 11 a.m. On Saturday, Rabbi Frank Mueller will perform on guitar and harmonica. Brady's Leap will perform Irish ballads Sept. 4. The Upstairs Trio with Craig Hill will play jazz Sept. 18.
Ohio AFL-CIO endorsesCafaro for Congress
The Ohio AFL-CIO, which represents 1,600 unions and more than 750,000 workers in the state, endorsed Democrat Capri Cafaro of Hunting Valley and formerly of Liberty for the 14th Congressional District seat. Cafaro is challenging U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, a Concord Township Republican who received the organization's endorsement in 2002.
The United Auto Workers also endorsed Cafaro in the race and had supported LaTourette in 2002. The district includes seven northern townships in Trumbull County, as well as all of Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga counties and portions of Cuyahoga, Portage and Summit counties.
Police investigate caseof missing postage stamps
YOUNGSTOWN -- The mayor's secretary told police that 700 postage stamps worth $259 are missing from city offices.
About a month ago, the secretary began noticing stamps disappearing from her desk and then learned that other departments also were missing stamps.
She told police Thursday that four full and two half rolls are missing from the mayor's office and two full rolls are gone from the engineer's office. Detectives were given a lead on possible suspects.
Fine is $25 for misconduct
YOUNGSTOWN -- Arthur Triplett, 49, of 2723 Dearborn St. pleaded no contest Thursday in municipal court to disorderly conduct, reduced from littering and deposit of trash, rubbish or garbage. Judge Robert P. Milich fined Triplett $25. Triplett and five other men were charged last month after repeated attempts by housing inspectors to have them clean up their yards.
Classes train volunteers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Help Hotline Crisis Center, the country's "One number" to call for information referral and crisis intervention, is offering free training classes for people interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hot line.
Classes will meet from 6-9:30 p.m. on six consecutive Mondays, beginning Oct. 4 through Nov. 8; one also will meet Nov. 13. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment.

Shots go through house
YOUNGSTOWN -- A bullet penetrated a house in the 1400 block of Atkinson Avenue at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Occupants of a small, white car traveling west on Victor Street were seen shooting in the air, reports show.
A woman lying on her couch heard glass breaking and then discovered that a bullet had gone through her bedroom window and wall and continued through the bathroom wall into a kitchen wall.
Illegal immigrants nabbed
MERCER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police continue to nab illegal immigrants seeking to pass through Mercer County on Interstate 80. Police said they caught four men in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation in the eastbound lanes in Findley Township around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Two were from Peru, one was from Ecuador and one was from Colombia. Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took the four into custody.
Two immigrants were picked up around 9:15 a.m. Monday in almost the same spot. One was from Sierra Leone and the other from Senegal, police said. Troopers have caught nearly 100 illegal immigrants on I-80 over the past two months.
