Charity builder is at home in warehouse

SHARON, Pa. -- Mercer County Habitat for Humanity is officially home.
The organization has moved from its location on East State Street in Hermitage to its newly remodeled, permanent warehouse at 129 Franklin St. here.
The nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing affordable housing to area residents, spent the spring remodeling its own facility with volunteer labor and donated materials.
The new location has a 2,000-square-foot warehouse, as well as an office, a conference room and a kitchenette.
In addition to a much-needed storage facility, the new warehouse provides room for project volunteers to pre-build housing components, which saves time and materials and lowers costs.
The lower the cost, the more houses the affiliate can build, said Bill Good, Habitat board president.
Office associate John Shank is in the new office between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
To reach Shank or to leave a message at other times, call (724) 347-3587. The mailing address for the affiliate remains P.O. Box 413, Wheatland, Pa. 16161.
Habitat for Humanity will have a booth at the Buhl Day celebration on Labor Day in Buhl Farm Park, Hermitage. Volunteers will be selling pepperoni rolls and soda pop to help defray the cost of the next Habitat home.
