NILES -- Police expect to make arrests in the next few days after discovering several suspected marijuana plants growing outside a home.
Narcotics officers executed a search warrant at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 45 N. Clover St. and recovered more than a half-dozen plants, some more than 6 feet tall, with a street value of more than $10,000.
Investigators also found additional drug paraphernalia inside structures on the property. Reports show no one was home when officers executed the warrant.
Closed for bridge work
VERNON -- Beach Smith Road about one mile west of state Route 7 will be closed today through Oct. 1 for bridge replacement.
The Trumbull County engineer's office recommends motorists detour by traveling west on Beach Smith Road, north on Bushnell Campbell Road, east on state Route 88 and south on state Route 7.
I-680 ramp restrictions
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Interstate 680 off ramp from northbound state Route 11 to westbound Interstate 80 will have various lane restrictions from today. This work is part of the $780,000 project to upgrade and replace overhead signs and supports on I-680 and state Route 711 from I-80 to South Avenue. This project is scheduled for completion this fall.
Woman sues Liberty police
YOUNGSTOWN -- A North Gray Street woman is seeking at least $25,000 in damages from Liberty Township and its police department for injuries she suffered in a traffic accident. Suvella M. Ravnell filed the lawsuit recently in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. The suit says Ravnell was a passenger in a car that was hit by a Liberty Township police car on Lansdowne Boulevard in June 2003.
Jury indicts area man
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted a Campbell man on a charge of possessing a firearm after he was convicted of a felony. Charged is Dustin R. Hennings, 23, of Bright Avenue, the U.S. attorney said. The case was investigated by Campbell police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Hennings is being prosecuted under "Project Safe Neighborhoods," a U.S. Department of Justice program that targets armed felons for federal prosecution.
Online fraud report filed
YOUNGSTOWN -- An Alma Avenue man who took part in an eBay auction for baseball cards on Aug. 1 told police Wednesday that he sent the California seller $501.30 and hasn't received the cards or been able to reach the seller since then. The man said he's been in contact with three other bidders (not from this area), all of whom were told they had the highest bid and sent in their money. The local victim provided police with the seller's name and phone numbers in California and filed a fraud report with eBay. He said payment was made through PayPal, an online service, from his bank account.
Rogers health fair
ROGERS -- The Rogers Community Auction and U.S. SARR -- Search, Rescue, Recovery Corps -- is sponsoring the area's eighth annual health fair and public safety day from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the auction sale grounds on state Route 154 about a mile west of state Route 7. The free event will have representatives of health-care agencies and safety forces, who will provide information and free medical screening and testing, including for high blood pressure and blood sugar, and displays of safety equipment. Depending on weather and crew availability, there will be fly-ins by various medical helicopters and the Ohio Army National Guard. Child ID kits will be available along with pamphlets dealing with missing children.
Charged in artifacts theft
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Cedar Street man is accused of taking Civil War artifacts from Michaelangelo's Flea Market on U.S. Route 422. Pennsylvania State Police said someone saw Donald James Clark Jr. take the relics, valued at about $5,000, from a display case and followed him to New Castle at 12:35 p.m. Sunday. Police said Clark drove to West State Street where he ran out of gasoline and took a can of gasoline from a shed at a private residence. He is charged with theft.
