MURDER-SUICIDE Police: Man killed wife in furnace

Two of the couple's children managed to escape.
AKRON (AP) -- Authorities suspect a man forced his wife into an industrial furnace before getting in it himself, killing both in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police said Jose Webster, 36, brought his wife, Karla Ramos, 26, and two of their children to his place of work, which was closed for business, Saturday night.
There apparently was a struggle before Karla Ramos was put into the furnace and killed, the county medical examiner's office said.
The children were not hurt.
Ramos' 21-year-old sister, Itza Ramos, said Sunday night that her two nieces, ages 8 and 4, managed to escape from the building and run home, where they told a 19-year-old male cousin what happened.
The cousin called Itza Ramos, who notified police.
She said the family wasn't aware of any problems between her sister and Webster.
Dealing with the loss
The couple's children, which also included two boys, ages 9 and 1, have handled the tragedy relatively well, she said. Family and friends gathered at Itza Ramos' house on Sunday night.
"So far they're taking it pretty good," she said. "We're trying to help them and figure out activities to distract them."
She remembered her sister as being helpful and friendly.
"She was a nice person -- sweet, always laughing with everyone, happy," she said.
Police and medical examiners said no additional details were available Sunday.
