AUSTINTOWN -- Austintown Township Park is hoping to spruce up the park with new landscaping, flowers and improved aesthetics.
The budget is small, park officials said, but enthusiasm is blooming. Individuals or organizations interested in participating should call the park office (330) 793-0718.
Volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, new and improved trails and repairs to playgrounds areas are needed. Suggestions from local leagues on how to improve ballfields and courts can be made by calling the park office.
The park office is in the process of moving to the Stacey Pavilion in the park.
GED practice tests
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center says it will have General Educational Development practice testing next month.
MCCTC is offering the practice test for free and on a walk-in basis from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Educational Resource Center at the Southern Park Mall near Sears and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at the career and technical center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.
Qualified participants need to be at least 18, not enrolled in high school and have an Ohio driver's license or an Ohio identification card.
Passing the practice test qualifies participants to receive a fee waiver for the official GED Test.

Sewer service meeting
NEWTON FALLS -- City and Braceville Township officials will meet again to discuss the city's providing some water and sewer service for the township.
City officials said the next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Braceville Township hall.
Heritage Day set
SALEM -- The Salem Retail and Business Association, a division of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, will have its Heritage Day 2004 with an antique car parade from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25.
The one-day fall festival features food, arts and crafts, displays, children's games, sales in participating stores and hayrides sponsored by the Salem Fire Department.
The parade will commence at 11 a.m. and proceed through the downtown to South Broadway Avenue, where the owners will park their vehicles for display.
Local clubs, organizations or churches interested in having a a booth should contact the chamber. The deadline to sign-up for booth spaces is Sept. 17.
People interested in entering an antique or classic car in the parade should call the chamber office for a registration form.
Roller ends up in creek
MUNCY, Pa. (AP) -- Someone started a paving roller at a construction site near the Muncy-Hughesville interchange of Interstate 180 and put it in gear, sending the machine down a steep embankment and into Muncy Creek, state police said.
No one was injured, but Muncy Creek Township and Muncy volunteer firefighters rushed to the scene Saturday evening to put booms in the water to absorb fuel leaking from the partially submerged roller.
