Park district to present Civil War re-enactment



LISBON -- Columbiana County Park District will offer Scenic Vista Park visitors the chance to step back into the 19th century and experience some of the excitement and sorrow of the American Civil War, during the seventh annual Civil War re-enactment and encampment Saturday and Sunday.
The event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 both days with children 10 and younger free.
There will be an open-air concert at 7 p.m. Saturday followed by a dress ball at 8 p.m.
Battle demonstrations will be at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with Federal and Confederate re-enactors demonstrating artillery and infantry tactics.
Visitors are also invited to view company and battalion drills and may stroll through Federal and Confederate camps and talk to re-enactors portraying the life of "Billy Yank" or "Johnny Reb," the common soldiers of the Civil War. There will also be a presentation on Civil War period gardening at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Visitors may sample homemade ice cream, watch a duel or browse Sutler's Row, where a variety of Civil War reproduction items from muskets and canteens to candles, clothing and period toys and games will be offered for sale.
Scenic Vista Park is on Wayne Bridge Road, three miles off of U.S. 30 west of Lisbon.
