Groups plan fund-raising sporting clays fun shoot
The Trumbull County Federation of Sportsmen, Whitetails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited and the Thundering Toms National Wild Turkey Federation will host the 8th annual Sporting Clays Fun Shoot Sunday at the Grand Valley Hunting Ranch, 10198 Penniman Road, Orwell, Ohio.
Shooting begins at 9 a.m. with the following events available during the day: 50-bird sporting clays round ($15); two rounds of 50 birds ($27); 5-stand available ($6); Lewis class shooting event ($5).
There will also be games, a raffle, lunch and refreshments available.
Shooting will be European style, no waiting.

Festival set Sept. 10-12 at Doc's Deer Farm
A festival will be held Sept. 10-12 at Doc's Deer Farm, 2118 Niles-Cortland Road, Cortland, Ohio.
The festival, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 10, 11, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 12, will have outdoor vendors, a number of large deer and elk on display, members of the Doc's "extreme team" and a novelty bow shoot.
Also planned for the event, the Bazetta Police Department will be giving out free gun locks.
Doc's, based in Cortland, produces deer scents of all types including attractants and coverups, clothing and accessories.

Trout rules upheld byfish and boat commission
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission recently voted 8-0 against making any changes to Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only regulations.
Throughout the spring and early summer, the Commission solicited public comment on the notion of allowing some use of bait on 57 trout fishing waters in the DHALO program. DHALO regulations (and those for the closely-related Delayed Harvest Fly Fishing Only program) allow for year-round fishing with no closed season. Harvest is permitted from mid-June through Labor Day, with catch and release angling at all other times.
The Commission received 1,167 written comments concerning the proposal; just 31 of those comments supported it.
The Commission also decided to seek public comment on dissolving the Selective Harvest and All Tackle Selective Harvest Programs.
YOUTH
Cougar member continuesto win this summer
Gina Cheliras of the Vienna Cougars Jr. Rifle Team has continued her winning summer season.
The Hubbard High School freshman began the summer by claiming the gold medal at the Ohio State Junior Three Position Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio, June 20, with a score of 1065 out of a possible 1200 points.
The outdoor smallbore competition is fired in the prone, standing and kneeling positions at a distance of 50 yards.
The win was the first by a subjunior shooter in more than 15 years. It also earned her the captain slot on the Ohio State Junior Three Position Team for the National Matches held in July. The team won a third place in the junior expert category.
She also attended the National Matches Junior Smallbore Camp in July. The week long camp had 72 attendees from 22 states.
The final day of camp consists of a combined NRA approved Three Position and Prone match. She again won the gold medal with a score of 945 of a possible 1,000 points. The win also earned her an automatic invitation to the NRA National Advanced Camp held in Vermont each year.
She is the daughter of David and Kathy Cheliras of Hubbard. The team, coached by Russ Evans of Hubbard, Rodney Hawkins of Liberty and Art Phillips of Girard, competes at the local, state and national levels and has been ranked in the top 10 percent of junior teams for the past five years.
NRA event Sept. 25
The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers Club will host a free NRA Youth Sportsfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept, 25 at the Fish & amp; Game Club of Vienna on state Route 193 across from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
