Curriculum: "The Learning Center," an after-school program for pupils who are academically or economically disadvantaged starts this fall. The program is designed to provide students with academic help, a meal and physical activity.
BOARDMAN

Curriculum: Offering world history class to freshmen.
Renovations: West Boulevard Elementary will get a new roof, new columns near the front door and upgrades to the exterior of the building. Total cost, about $400,000.
CAMPBELL
Renovations: Completing renovations to football stadium.
CANFIELD
Administrator: Rich Archer, business manager.
Renovations: Re-paving and repairing several district parking lots, including the Canfield High School parking lot.
CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF YOUNGSTOWN
Administrator: Lois Cavucci, new principal at St. Anne Ukranian Elementary School, Youngstown.
LEGACY ACADEMY, YOUNGSTOWN
Curriculum: Positive Behavior Support program installed.
LIFE SKILLS CENTER OF YOUNGSTOWN
Administrators: Jeremy Batchelor, new administrator, and Ruth Smith, new assistant administrator.
lowellville
Administrator: Rocco Nero, superintendent.
Renovations: Completed new six-lane track and renovations to the football field and bleachers.
MAHONING COUNTY CAREER AND TECHNICAL CENTER
Renovations: New fire alarms and a public address system in both buildings on campus at a cost of about $300,000.
poland
Administrators: Sue Souse, Poland Middle School principal; and Craig Sommers, director of special education/services.
Curriculum: New computer technology lab added at the middle school to upgrade existing expressive arts and elective curriculum. New fifth- and sixth-grade music program added.
SEBRING
Curriculum: Classes for kindergarten pupils will be all day in two classrooms. Last year, there was one kindergarten classroom with pupils attending all day, and two classes with pupils attending mornings or afternoons only.
STRUTHERS
Administrator: Jackie Kuffel, middle school principal.Renovations: Completed the wellness center and new tennis courts. The tennis courts are on the site of the former Sexton Street School.
SUMMIT ACADEMY, YOUNGSTOWN
Administrator: Lenee Giuliano, assistant administrator for primary levels.
Curriculum: Added program for secondary students grades 9-12 .
WATKINS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, YOUNGSTOWN
Renovations: Improvements to building; new roof and aluminum siding added to outside.
WEST BRANCH
Administrator: Dr. Scott Weingart, superintendent
Curriculum: "Breakthrough to Literacy" program will be implemented in kindergarten, first and second grades. The program incorporates computers and other technology to monitor student progress and gives them access to reading material to match their reading level.
Renovations: A $48 million construction project will be completed during the school year.
WESTERN RESERVE
Administrators: Dennis Zinz, new middle school principal, and Debbie Farelli, new elementary school principal.
YOUNGSTOWN
Administrators: Wendy Webb, superintendent. Michelle Dotson, Cleveland Elementary principal; and Lynda Farkas, Kirkmere Elementary principal.
Curriculum: District is establishing Early College High School to give promising but underachieving students a chance to excel, and a small-schools initiative intended to create more compact schools within each high school that will have no more than 400 students each and offer a more rigorous curriculum.
Renovations: Work continues on a $200 million construction program. New Taft and Harding elementaries to open this fall.
YOUNGSTOWN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Renovations: Construction began on a new high school wing and gymnasium.
YOUNGSTOWN COMMUNITY SCHOOL/MILL CREEK CHILDREN'S CENTER
Curriculum: Added an additional kindergarten class, as well as a sixth-grade program.
