Company receives grantto study fuel additives
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mountain View Systems, a company in the Youngstown Business Incubator, was awarded a federal research grant to study modification of soy bean oil for use as a deposit control fuel additive in gasoline. The funds were awarded by a program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture
Jim Cossler, director of the business incubator, said deposit control fuel additives are required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for all gasoline sold in the United States. If Mountain View Systems' research is successful in creating a renewable, agricultural-based additive, he said, it could dramatically reduce the nation's dependence on the nonrenewable, petroleum-based additives that are used now.
Mountain View Systems was founded by research chemist James Kinder. Cossler said the incubator staff will be working with Kinder to explore commercialization and licensing opportunities for all current and future research initiatives undertaken by the firm.
