REALITY TV Mercer Co. shepherd competes on 'Survivor' in South Pacific

MERCER, Pa. -- A Mercer County woman who describes her occupation as a sheep farmer is one of the latest contestants on the "Survivor" television show series.
Dolly Neely, 25, of Lake Latonka, a residential community just northeast of Mercer, is one of 18 competitors for "Survivor: Vanuatu -- Islands of Fire," which was filmed in the South Pacific last month.
She couldn't be reached to comment, but a CBS biography of the contestants said Neely was born in Clarion, Pa., lived for several years in Alexandria, Va., and now tends a flock of 40 sheep on a Mercer-area farm she took over following the death of her grandfather in November.
She is definitely the outdoor type, according to CBS, which said Neely enjoys both snow and water skiing, mountain biking, gardening, bass fishing, hunting with a rifle, trapping muskrat and beaver and reading the magazine National Rifleman.
She's a member of the National Rifle Association, loves romance music from the 1940s and 1950s, and her favorite movie is "The Seven Year Itch," according to CBS.
She lists Jesus Christ as her ultimate hero, and she believes her communication, creativity and practical skills will serve her well in the competition, according to her CBS biography.
The latest version of "Survivor" premieres Sept. 16.
It pits the men against the women in the island competition that is gradually reduced to a single winner of a $1 million prize.
