BALTIMORE -- Erubiel Durazo hit three homers and drove in all five Oakland runs, and Mark Mulder became the first 16-game winner in the major leagues. It was the second three-homer game of Durazo's career. He singled in his first at-bat and finished 4-for-4. Mulder (16-4) allowed four runs and six hits in eight innings, but gave up only one single over his final five innings.
Twins 7, Yankees 2
MINNEAPOLIS -- Johan Santana knocked down Derek Jeter and silenced New York's powerful lineup. Santana (13-6) took a shutout into the eighth inning and won his fifth straight start, spoiling Mike Mussina's return from the disabled list. Shannon Stewart went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs for the Twins. Jacque Jones also homered for Minnesota, which sent New York to its third consecutive loss. Mussina (9-7) made his first start since July 6 -- he had been sidelined with a stiff right elbow.
Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 4
BOSTON -- Tim Wakefield pitched eight innings and Boston moved a season-high 15 games over .500. Kevin Millar and Bill Mueller each drove in two runs for Boston. Wakefield (9-7) allowed two runs, five hits, one walk and struck out five.
Angels 6, Devil Rays 4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Bartolo Colon pitched into the ninth inning for his seventh win in eight starts and Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in two runs. Colon (12-9) allowed two runs and three hits in 82/3 innings -- one out shy of his first complete game this season. Guerrero homered off Mark Hendrickson (8-12) and added an RBI double.
White Sox 9, Tigers 2
CHICAGO -- Aaron Rowand homered twice -- including his first career grand slam -- and Jose Contreras won his third straight decision. Contreras (11-5) allowed two runs and six hits in 62/3 innings. Mike Jackson threw a scoreless ninth for Chicago, becoming the ninth pitcher in major league history with 1,000 appearances.
Royals 3, Mariners 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- John Buck hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning for Kansas City. Seattle right fielder Ichiro Suzuki, the majors' leading hitter, left the game with a mild concussion in the third when he was hit in the head by a pitch from rookie starter Jimmy Serrano.

Astros 9, Phillies 8
PHILADELPHIA -- Carlos Beltran's two-run double in the eighth inning helped Houston on the same day Roger Clemens joined Andy Pettitte on the injury list. Clemens was day to day after straining his right calf running to first base on his two-run single. The six-time AL Cy Young Award winner gave up four runs in three innings. Before the game, the Astros learned Pettitte will have season-ending elbow surgery next week. Beltran finished with two hits and three RBIs. Marlon Byrd and Placido Polanco homered for the Phillies.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds homered for the third time in two days as San Francisco gained a split. Bonds' 34th homer this season was No. 692 of his career. The Giants had their six-game winning streak snapped in the opener. Jose Vidro hit his 100th career home run and Rocky Biddle (4-6) earned the victory.
Cubs 7, Brewers 5, 11 innings
MILWAUKEE -- Corey Patterson hit a two-run homer, his 16th of the season, in the 11th. Nomar Garciaparra hit three doubles and Derrek Lee also homered and drove in two runs for the Cubs, who won for the second time in six games. Russell Branyon hit two home runs and had five RBIs for Milwaukee.
Reds 5, Cardinals 4
ST. LOUIS -- Rookie Josh Hancock won for the first time as a starter and Sean Casey drove in three runs, helping Cincinnati avoid a three-game sweep. Scott Rolen homered and Albert Pujols doubled twice for St. Louis.
Marlins 6, Dodgers 4
LOS ANGELES -- Pinch-hitter Lenny Harris delivered a three-run double off Eric Gagne with two outs in the ninth inning. It was only Gagne's second blown save in 100 chances, dating to Aug. 26, 2002. The 2003 NL Cy Young Award winner entered with a 4-2 lead in the ninth, but couldn't hold it.
Braves 6, Padres 5
SAN DIEGO -- Andruw Jones hit a two-run homer off Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning and Atlanta threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game. Mark Loretta drew a two-out walk but was thrown out trying to score on Brian Giles' double.
