Eagles: Starting defensive end N.D. Kalu will miss the season after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament in Tuesday's practice. Kalu started all 16 games on a defensive line that was decimated by injuries last season. He recorded career highs with 74 tackles and three fumble recoveries, had 51/2 sacks and also scored his first career touchdown.
Giants: Eli Manning will start in Thursday night's game in Carolina, but that doesn't necessarily mean the first pick in the NFL draft has beaten out Kurt Warner for the team's starting quarterback job. Kicker Bill Gramatica had back spasms at practice and his status for the game against Carolina is uncertain. The Giants said free agent Todd France would kick if Gramatica cannot play.
Colts: Five-time Pro Bowl selection Marvin Harrison and the NFL's single-season reception record holder caught a ball over the middle and took a big hit between Anthony Floyd and Joseph Jefferson. When Harrison got up, he flexed his right arm a few times and took a few plays off. He returned to practice after a brief break. The Colts lost starting safety Idrees Bashir with injured ribs after he collided with tight end Dallas Clark.
Redskins: Ifeanyi Ohalete, who started 15 games at strong safety last season, was cut. He already had lost his starting job when the Redskins drafted Sean Taylor with the fifth overall pick in April's draft and shifted Matt Bowen to strong safety.
Jaguars: Veteran guard Mike Compton is scheduled for surgery on an injured thumb that will keep him out 10 days to two weeks. Coach Jack Del Rio said that Tony Brackens, the franchise's career sack leader, could be out longer than the expected week with a strained muscle in the back of a knee.
Bills: Offensive lineman Marcus Price missed practice Tuesday and will be out for at least a week with an injured toe on his left foot. Price injured his foot in the Bills 16-6 exhibition win over Denver on Sunday.
Cowboys: Coach Bill Parcells said quarterback Vinny Testaverde will start Saturday night's preseason game at Oakland. But instead of trying to play both Drew Henson and Tony Romo after that, Parcells may use one of them this week and the other in the next game. He didn't indicate who would play after Testaverde this week.
Titans: Cornerback Samari Rolle had an MRI on his sore right ankle Tuesday afternoon. Coach Jeff Fisher said Rolle is questionable for Saturday night's exhibition at Buffalo.
Patriots: Linebacker Quinn Dorsey was traded to the Chicago Bears for a future draft pick. The team also signed tight end Joel Jacobs.
Bears: Left guard Rex Tucker will miss eight to 10 weeks of the regular season because of a dislocated left elbow. Ruben Brown will start in Tucker's absence. Tucker's injury will not require surgery.
Raiders: Left tackle Robert Gallery, the second player taken in the NFL draft, didn't practice Tuesday morning because of an elbow injury, leaving his status uncertain for Saturday's preseason game against Dallas. Gallery hyperextended his elbow during a blocking drill Monday.
Broncos: Champ Bailey, a four-time Pro Bowler cornerback, split time as a wide receiver at Tuesday's practice. Coach Mike Shanahan had no comment on the matter, but watched intently as Bailey ran about 10 plays with the offense. He had a pass batted away by Roc Alexander on the first ball thrown his way. He caught the next ball to come his way, blew past cornerback Willie Middlebrooks and set sail into the end zone. Also, an MRI revealed linebacker Terry Pierce tore a ligament in his right knee and could be out at least four weeks; wide receiver Willie Jackson was released.
Packers: Linebacker Marcus Wilkins was waived Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Wilkins signed with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent out of Texas in April 2002. In two seasons, he played in 12 games with five tackles and 13 special teams stops.
