Alcoa to close plant in Ohio
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Alcoa Inc. will take a $7 million charge to close an automotive components plant in Ohio due to overcapacity, the company said Tuesday.
The Northwood plant, just outside of Toledo, will be shuttered by the end of the year. About 140 people work at the plant, Alcoa said.
"We are working with our customers to insure supply and service is not impacted during this consolidation," said Eric Winter, vice president for operations and engineering at Alcoa Advanced Transportation Systems.
About $3 million in pretax charges will be recorded during the third quarter.
Employees who are eligible will receive severance packages and some benefits, which will be part of upcoming negotiations.
The company said it would work with state and community officials to ease the impact of the closing and would attempt to find a buyer for the facility that could retain jobs.
