MAHONING COUNTY Police probe shooting, beating
A Warren man told police he was beaten outside the club Sunday morning.
AUSTINTOWN -- A Boardman man is set to appear in Mahoning County Court here Thursday on a charge stemming from a report that gunshots were fired earlier this month on South Raccoon Road.
Police charged David Gennaro Jr., 28, of Silver Fox Drive with improper handling of a firearm. Detective Sgt. Frank Tomasino said Gennaro fired seven shots in the air from a 9 mm handgun about 2:45 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 1600 block of South Raccoon Road, near Antonio's nightclub.
There were no injuries. Witnesses told police that the gunman was yelling out his window about a car being damaged in the nightclub parking lot.
Tomasino said an officer heard the gunshots while responding to a call about a man in a black Cadillac Escalade who was threatening a person with a gun in the parking lot of a nearby gas station.
Security videotapes show that Gennaro was in the gas station about the same time that police received the report about the man in the parking lot with the gun, Tomasino said.
Police later received an anonymous tip that Gennaro had fired the gun on South Raccoon Road.
Report of beating
Police also are investigating a report that a Warren man was beaten early Sunday morning in the Antonio's parking lot. Reports state that the man was bleeding heavily from his head when officers arrived in the parking lot at about 2 a.m.
The man, however, refused medical treatment and would not tell police who beat him.
Later that day, the Warren man came to the police station and said he wanted to file a report for insurance purposes. He told police that he had bumped into another man inside the bar, starting an argument that carried over into the parking lot.
Once outside, friends of the other man punched the Warren man in the face and used a weapon to hit him in the back of the head, reports state. The Warren man said he did not know what was used to hit him in the head.
An Austintown woman told police a concrete parking barrier was dropped on her car's hood during the fracas.
