MAHONING COUNTY Crime reports keep area police busy
One woman reported her dog was stolen.
AUSTINTOWN -- Township police were busy over the weekend, as they received several crime reports of crimes, including 14 for thefts, and also handled several arrests.
Among the items reported stolen were car CD players, money, gasoline, cigarettes, socks, a sweat shirt and baseball cards.
A New Road woman also told police that someone entered her back yard late Saturday or early Sunday and stole her dog, a boxer.
Theft charges
Those arrested by police over the weekend include Justin Fulmer, 29, of Furnace Street, Mineral Ridge, who is charged with theft. Fulmer was set to be arraigned today in Mahoning County Court here. Witnesses said Fulmer was one of two men who stole two donation boxes for the Ronald McDonald House charity Sunday from McDonald's on state Route 46.
Reports state that when confronted by police, Fulmer said he had made a "foolish mistake" and returned the donation boxes. He would not, however, identify the other man who was with him when he stole the boxes. Reports do not state if any money had been taken from the boxes.
Also expected to appear in court today is Stephen Grieco, 23, of Pine Trace, who is charged with theft. Witnesses said Grieco used his truck Friday afternoon to steal lumber from a construction site on Stony Ridge Drive.
Grieco had the lumber in his truck when he was stopped by police on Stony Ridge Drive a short time after the theft, reports state. Police said at first, Grieco told them he worked for the construction company responsible for the site, and that a man he called on his cell phone was the company owner.
The man on the cell phone told police it was his fault the theft had been reported. Police later checked the cell phone records, however, and found that the man they had talked to was not the owner. Grieco then admitted stealing the lumber, reports state.
Drug charges
On Sunday, police also arrested Edward Navarro Jr., of Oak Street, Youngstown, and charged him with permitting drug abuse in a vehicle and two counts of drug abuse. He is expected to appear in county court today.
Police said they found Navarro and a woman sitting in a car behind Noday's Lounge on Oakwood Avenue at about 1 a.m. while investigating a nearby burglary. Reports state that Navarro had suspected marijuana and cocaine in his lap and that police found lines of suspected cocaine on a CD case under where Navarro had been sitting in the car. The woman told police the drugs belonged to Navarro and she was released.
Police said Saturday they also arrested Reynard Mastramico, 33, of Mercedes Place, Canfield, and Rhonda Smith, 32, of West Liberty Street, Girard, and charged them both with drug abuse and permitting drug abuse in a vehicle.
Both were expected to appear in county court today.
Police said Mastramico was driving a car that they stopped for not having its headlights on at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Chipper's Sports bar on North Edgehill Avenue. Smith was a passenger in the car.
Reports state that police searched the car and found a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine as well as lines of suspected cocaine on a CD case. Police said they also found similar plastic bags containing suspected cocaine in Smith's purse and Mastramico's pocket.
Police also are investigating a report that a man in a car made sexual comments toward two girls, ages 8 and 7, who were riding their bikes at about 5 p.m. Sunday on London Drive. The 8-year-old's mother told police the man drove away when she ran toward him.
