Playhouse fund-raiser
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Playhouse supporters will raise funds for general expenses at "An Evening of Musical Splendor," at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Playhouse, which is off Glenwood Avenue. Music will include gospel, show tunes and hip hop. Among participants will be Youngstown Connection, Highway Tabernacle Ensemble, the dance troupe from Organizacion Civica y Cultura Hispana Americana and Archangel Dance Theatre.
Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The Playhouse also has announced its first auditions for the 2004-2005 season. Two men and one woman are needed for the comedy "Murder at the Howard Johnson's." Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 and 2, or by appointment. Call (330) 788-8739.
Civil War musicprogram scheduled
CANFIELD -- There's history behind "Music of the Civil War Era," a program from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday and next Sunday at Loghurst Museum, 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and free for children ages 5 and younger. Admission includes tours of Loghurst, the oldest remaining log house in northeast Ohio. Martial arts competition
YOUNGSTOWN -- Master Park Martial Arts, 224 Boardman-Canfield Road, is registering competitors for the 18th U.S. Martial Arts Championships 2004, which will be Oct. 2 at Youngstown State University. Film entries sought
CLEVELAND -- Filmmakers are invited to submit entries to be shown at the 29th Cleveland International Film Festival from March 10 to 20 at Tower City Center.
Short and feature-length films, made after Jan. 1, 2003, will be considered by a selection committee. The films must be available on either 35mm, Beta SP (NTSC) or DVD (Region1) format. Deadline is Nov. 30. For complete details visit www.clevelandfilm.org.
Frank Sinatra tribute
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tom Tiratto and his Big Band will present "A Tribute to Frank Sinatra" at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Tiratto, a native of Youngstown, has staged his Las Vegas-style show in the finest venues around the United States and recently returned from Germany where the group recorded with the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra.
At Stambaugh the program will feature the very best of Sinatra including such numbers as "Summerwind," "All or Nothing at All" and the popular "New York, New York."
