Warren officials say no to TV show
WARREN -- The city has decided not to take part in a television reality show.
Greg Hicks, city law director, said he received information late Friday from the show's producers stating that the city would give up all control of a lawsuit filed by John Rogers, 23, of Woodbine Avenue, if it agreed to take part in the legal reality series.
The show is to air this fall on NBC.
"We are worried on how the city would be portrayed," Hicks said. He added that if the city would still have some control over the lawsuit, he may reconsider.
The suit states he was beaten by police in May 2003. He lists the city, Police Chief John Mandopoulos and patrol officer Doug Hipple as defendants.
David E. Kelley is executive producer of the show, which is not yet titled. Kelley has been involved with television shows such as "L.A. Law" and "The Practice."
Had the lawsuit been used on the show, it would have been settled through binding arbitration, and the city would not have to pay to defend it.
