SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK From Eastwood Field
Closing in: The New York-Penn League season record for hits is 108, set by Vermont's Matthew Watson in 1999. The Scrappers' Argenis Reyes is trying to rewrite the record book in that category. Reyes entered Tuesday night's game with a league-high 67 hits. Against the Jammers, Reyes went 1-for-4, so he needs 40 to tie the mark and 41 to surpass it. "Anything he can do to put his name on the map is [big], because he's a guy who has to battle for everything he gets," Scrappers manager Mike Sarbaugh said. "From a personal standpoint, he's the type of guy who might not even know that he gets that record." To become the new record holder, Reyes would need to average 1.7 hits per game for the 24 remaining.
Roster moves: The Cleveland Indians sent left-hander Paul Lubrano (1-0, 1.93) and right-hander Kyle Collins (4-1, 3.86) to Rookie League Burlington. The move was made after Burlington was hit with injuries and high pitch counts.
Up next: The Scrappers continue their homestand against Jamestown tonight and Thursday. Left-hander Tony Sipp (1-1, 3.66) opposes lefty Jason Vargas (3-1, 1.48) tonight, and left-hander Aaron Laffey (0-1, 1.84) pitches against left-hander Taylor Tankersley (0-0, 0.00) on Thursday.
