Rangers 7, Yankees 1
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ryan Drese pitched seven shutout innings and former Yankee Alfonso Soriano doubled twice and scored three times. David Dellucci, another former Yankee, and Mark Teixeira both hit two-run homers to help the Rangers end a season-high four-game losing streak. Kevin Brown (9-2) lost for the first time in six starts, turning in his worst performance since returning from the disabled list on July 30.
Red Sox 8, Devil Rays 4
BOSTON -- Jason Varitek and Bill Mueller each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as Boston won for the third time in four games. Varitek, Orlando Cabrera, Mueller and Kevin Youkilis drove in two runs each. Manny Ramirez started in left field and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts after missing three straight games because of the flu.
White Sox 9, Royals 3
CHICAGO -- Willie Harris went 5-for-5, Carlos Lee hit a three-run homer and Paul Konerko added a two-run shot to lead Chicago. Joe Crede also hit a two-run homer for the White Sox. Harris has reached base safely in nine straight plate appearances. Jon Garland (8-8) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs and seven hits. Before the game, the Royals optioned AL Rookie of the Year Angel Berroa to Double-A Wichita. He was batting just .249 with five home runs and 30 RBIs.
Mariners 4, Twins 3
SEATTLE -- Edgar Martinez homered in his first game since announcing he will retire at the end of this season, and Gil Meche allowed two hits over eight innings. Bucky Jacobsen also hit a two-run homer. Corey Koskie homered in the fifth for Minnesota's first hit, and pinch-hitter Lew Ford connected in the eighth. J.J. Putz pitched the ninth for his second save. He gave up a solo homer to Torii Hunter.
Athletics 5, Tigers 4
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Eric Chavez hit a three-run homer and Barry Zito won for the third time in four starts. The A's ended a five-game homerless drought, winning their third straight and fourth in five. Carlos Pena hit his 15th homer for Detroit.
Orioles 11, Angels 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Miguel Tejada went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and tied a season high with five RBIs, helping Baltimore to its eighth straight victory. Larry Bigbie homered, Brian Roberts tied a career high with four hits and David Newhan was 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Orioles. Aaron Sele (7-1) was charged with six runs -- four earned -- and a career-worst 13 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cardinals 2, Marlins 1, 10 innings
MIAMI -- Albert Pujols ended Josh Beckett's no-hit bid with a sixth-inning homer, and Jim Edmonds homered on the first pitch in the 10th. Florida had seven hits but was shut out after Alex Gonzalez doubled home a run in the second. St. Louis won for the 19th time in 24 games since the All-Star break.
Mets 7, Astros 3
NEW YORK -- Rookie David Wright singled home the go-ahead run and hit his first Shea Stadium homer as New York ended a three-game losing streak. Richard Hidalgo delivered a key double against the club that traded him in mid-June, and Jose Reyes hit a two-run triple for the Mets.

MONTREAL -- Livan Hernandez (9-10) struck out eight in eight innings, allowing seven hits, and Luis Ayala pitched a one-hit ninth as Montreal won its third straight.
Dodgers 5, Reds 2
CINCINNATI -- Steve Finley hit his first homer with Los Angeles, Adrian Beltre also homered and Jose Lima (11-3) pitched allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings.
Rockies 5, Phillies 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Pinch-hitter Vinny Castilla overcame a 3-2 deficit with a two-run double off Tim Worrell (3-5), and Luis Gonzalez added a sacrifice fly in the three-run ninth as the Rockies won their second straight over the Phillies.
Padres 8, Cubs 6
CHICAGO -- Ramon Hernandez had three hits, including a three-run homer, as San Diego moved within one game of the Cubs for the lead in the NL wild-card race. Sammy Sosa hit his 564th homer to move past Reggie Jackson into sole possession of eighth place on the career list.
Brewers 3, Braves 2
ATLANTA -- Chris Magruder, who entered the game in the ninth inning, homered off Tom Martin (0-2) as Milwaukee rallied from a 2-0 deficit to stop Atlanta's five-game winning streak. It was only the Braves' third loss in 17 games.
