NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Gimenez's bat strong in win over Oneonta

Mahoning Valley (24-27) begins a three-game series against Jamestown at Eastwood Field tonight.
ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Chris Gimenez collected a triple, a double and a single to drive in a pair of runs as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Oneonta Tigers 6-3 in a New York-Penn League game Monday.
Four Mahoning Valley pitchers combined to strike out 15 Tigers, surrendering just one walk.
The Scrappers (24-27) scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to wipe out a 2-0 deficit but the Tigers (24-24) knotted the score at 3 with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Gimenez doubled in Argenis Reyes and Fernando Pacheco. Mike Butia followed with an RBI single.
Piling on
The Scrappers scored three more times in the top of the sixth.
Reyes singled with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners.
Reyes had two singles, was hit by a pitch and stole a base. He's now hitting .319.
Also in a 10-hit attack, Butia and Pacheco each had two hits. Butia also hit a double.
Starter Nelson Hiraldo (1-2) threw five innings and allowed six hits and struck out nine.
Michael Hernandez, Scott Roehl and Mark Harris each struck out a pair. Harris earned his 10th save.
The Scrappers begin a three-game series against the Jamestown Jammers (17-31) tonight at Eastwood Field at 7:05 p.m.
